Food Industry Services - Packaging & Sealing

Restaurants, cafes, shops and other establishments selling fresh foods and ready to eat meals have to avoid food wastage as much as possible. Fresh foods that have not been processed and packaged properly are vulnerable to spoilage. These foods have short shelf life. It is necessary to use food preservation techniques to avoid food wastage and spoilage. Vacuum packaging is a widely used technique for fresh food preservation. A vacuum sealing machine and a plastic bag are used to preserve fresh foods. It helps retain freshness of the foods longer.

Commercial Food Sealer

There are many techniques used for fresh food preservation but vacuum packaging is the most preferred technique. It requires compatible bags and a vacuum sealer machine. Different models of vacuum sealer machines are available in the market. Each machine is designed for a specific application and a specific group of users. There are basic devices as well as complex systems with bells and whistles.

Manual and Automatic

A manual machine allows the user more control over the packaging. The user can decide how much air to remove from the bag. A customised solution can be used for each type of products. The vacuum time and sealing time can be adjusted. In an automatic machine, maximum air is pulled out from the bag except when the pulse mode is used. It takes the guesswork out of vacuum packaging. Most of the functions are automated.

A vacuum sealing device takes 20-40 seconds to remove the air from the bag. In the next step, it heat seals the bag opening. This process takes about 6 seconds. Restaurants, cafes, shops and other establishments can use advanced machines that completely remove oxygen from the bag. The machine then fills the bag with nitrogen and carbon dioxide. This sealing technique further extends the food shelf life. The gas replacement vacuum machine is often used in the supermarkets to package the meats. In the pulse mode, the machine removes the air slowly, giving the user more control over how much air is removed. It helps avoid crushing of soft foods. The bag is sealed once the vacuuming process is complete. Now the packaged food is ready for storage.

Even though vacuum packaging extends the food's shelf life; it is important to follow food safety guidelines. Such a packaged food is still not processed and preserved using chemicals and preservatives. The freshness of the food can be extended but only up to a certain time limit. Refrigeration may still be needed even after vacuum packaging of the food. It all depends on the type of foods, ingredients, and the vacuum sealing technique used to preserve the food.
